Southview Design
In November 2004, Southview Design made a very smart move. They outsourced the management and implementation of their marketing program to Kristin Kowler, Genius To Go. In the years that followed, a partnership developed where Ross and Kristin worked together to build a Southview Design “marketing machine.” Ross was always searching for better ways to market Southview’s services, and Kristin brought substantial talent and more than 20 years of experience as a creative marketer to the cause.
In addition to handling the nitty-gritty and creative aspects of the marketing program, she was also a strategic planning partner, contributing ideas, insight, resources, and knowledge along the way.

Bennett Lumber

In her role as JIT marketing manager for Bennett Lumber, Kristin was responsible for design and implementation of a customer-centric B2B and B2C marketing program with three primary goals:
- improve visibility and homeowner awareness
- differentiate Bennett from “big box” and neighborhood hardware stores
- build stronger relationships with professional customers
The strategic planning process included interviews with customers to identify opportunities to improve the customer experience and a marketing blueprint with detailed timelines and a line item budget.
The budget for the program – which included a mix of print advertising, direct mail, newsletter, events, out-of-home, and website redesign – was approximately 2% of sales. In an 18 month period, sales at Bennett increases from $18 to $30 million, due to improvements in operations and marketing, as well as strategic acquisitions.

My clients appreciate my ability to think AND do. They often comment on how important it is to have someone who can actually DO stuff, because great ideas aren’t very useful if you can’t get them off the ground. When you go to market as a “Genius” you set the expectation very high, so you’d better have the chops to back it up.
“Kristin is extremely skilled at reviewing a situation or project and distilling all the information down to the core elements. Her insight into audiences and customer response to proposed marketing plans and campaigns is uncanny. I can rely on her to be organized and have keen attention to details on every project we collaborate on. I wouldn’t hesitate to invite her into a project.”

“Kristin is a multi-talented resource whom I highly recommend. – She can see the “big” picture of what you’re trying to accomplish with your marketing and then focuses you on what really matters. – She makes sense of the complex and then simplifies it. – She’s strategic in her work, but also able to put together and implement a tactical plan. I use Kristin when I need a resource who gets it and gets it done!”
– Jill Konrath, chief sales executive, sellingtobigcompanies.com
